MISSION TRIP TIMELINE

PRE-MISSION

  • The first step is to fill out an application. There is a $100 non-refundable application fee.

  • Once your application is approved you will be set up in our SOS Adventure Gateway. It will be our main means of communication. You will have a personal dashboard with checklists, training videos, and much more.

  • Expect 3-4 meetings to get ready for the mission. SOS will provide various training materials to help you learn the drama, how to preach, heal the sick, share your testimony and more.

  • You will work together with your team leader for airfare purchase. Once your immunizations are up-to-date, passport in hands and visa arranged for, you are ready for take off.

ON-MISSION

  • Saturday: You will arrive boots on the ground in Africa. SOS will arrange for all ground transportation, meals and accommodations.

Sunday: Many of us will preach in various churches. Some will assist by sharing a testimony, but everyone will have a part to play. In the afternoon it’s the Festival Kick-off Party.

  • Wake up. Pray. Breakfast. Team devotional. Out the door by 9 am. The majority of us will be on busy street corners and market places. Some of us will serve at places like prison, orphanages or hospitals. We will preach, lay hands on the sick, hug, smile, dance, act, and love on those we come in contact with. Sleep by 10 pm (or so).

  • In the mornings, we are on different street outreaches. In the afternoons, we head to our Signs and Wonders Festival. There we will dance, pray for the sick, cast out demons and support the festival in any way necessary.

  • The majority of us have the day off on Monday. Then on Tuesday we fly home. You will be the happiest missionary in town, the most tired and suit cases full of awesome Jesus stories. It may be hard to process it all so SOS will help you reintegrate healthily.

“THEREFORE GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS, BAPTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND TEACHING THEM TO OBEY EVERYTHING I HAVE COMMANDED YOU. AND SURELY YOU I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, TO THE END OF THE AGE.”

MATTHEW 28:19

FAQs

  • Yes, your passport is proof of your citizenship. Each team member will need a passport to travel to Africa.

For US team members, you must have a passport book, not the passport card.

If you do not have a passport, or if your current passport expires within 6 months of the end of the mission, you will need to apply for a new passport.

Every country’s fees and turn-around time is different.

  • Yes, Visas are an entry requirement for every nation in Africa. Costs range from $50-$150. Some countries require you to apply for a Visa before traveling and some countries you get it on-arrival. It’s important to have cash, clean and large bills for the on arrival Visa fees.

  • Many of the nations we travel to either require or strongly suggest that you receive certain immunizations or take prophylaxis medications to help ensure you remain healthy both during and after you travel. For a list of the immunizations/medications that are required &/or recommended for the country you will be traveling to, visit the CDC

website (https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/list), select the nation of destination and the information will be provided.

We ask that all team members visit their personal physician or a travel clinic at least 12 weeks before departure to discuss the trip location and to develop an immunization/medication plan.

  • Team Leaders will shop for the best deal and buy airfare in a group contract. SOS works with a Travel Agency called Highpoint, but you don’t have to use them. The only requirement is that you submit your itinerary to SOS for approval before purchasing. If you are coming as an individual you can use any site on the internet. As an individual, you also submit itinerary for approval before purchasing it.

  • Here are the common financial deadlines leading up to a trip:
